Oxnard man arrested after firing handgun out of vehicle

OXNARD, Calif. - Oxnard police responded to the 4000 block of South “A” Street Saturday evening after receiving reports that gunshots were fired in the area.

The call came in around 10 p.m.

After arriving, officers were able to obtain surveillance footage which showed a person firing a handgun into the air from inside a vehicle.

Police quickly located the vehicle in the area but found it unoccupied.

After waiting for a short time, a man came out and entered the vehicle and drove off.

Officers then conducted a traffic stop and detained the driver, later identified as 23-year-old Alfredo Vergara of Oxnard.

Police then searched the vehicle and said they located a loaded/unloaded 9mm firearm and spent casings.

Vergara was arrested on several firearm related charges.
