VENTURA, Calif. - The Ventura County Sheriff's Office said multiple deputies were patrolling the North Ventura Avenue area under Highway 33 in the Ojai Valley Friday morning when they arrested a parolee after he was found in possession of an illegal firearm and drugs.

The deputies contacted 41-year-old Curry Maddox around 10:15 a.m. Maddox was reportedly living out of his mobile trailer on the side of the road.

Deputies said Maddox was on parole for kidnapping. As part of his conditional release, deputies were allowed to search his person, vehicle and property for prohibited items such as weapons and drugs.

During their search of Maddox's mobile trailer, deputies reportedly located a loaded sawed-off shotgun, small amount of methamphetamine, two pounds of marijuana and numerous used syringes.

Maddox was then arrested for numerous firearm and drug related charges.

He was booked at the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $60,000 and an additional $20,000 for the parole violation.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, April 27, at 1:30 p.m.
