Grover Beach police were able to contact a subject about an illegal dumping thanks to a Facebook post.

GROVER BEACH, Calif. - Grover Beach police found a post on Facebook that helped them locate and speak with a subject for illegal dumping Saturday morning.

Police said in their own Facebook post that the page 805Life shared images and information regarding an illegal dumping incident in Grover Beach near the city boundary with Pismo Beach.

Police used that information to investigate the case and locate the culprit.

Officers then said they made contact with the person responsible and spoke with him about the incident.

Police report that after their discussion, and in support of Earth Day and Arbor Day this month, the person voluntarily agreed to go back to the scene of the dumping, with a police escort, and pick up what was left there.

Officers said they stayed on the scene until the person cleaned up the mess in its entirety and drove away.

Grover Beach police want to thank their social media friends for helping to keep the community clean.
