OXNARD, Calif. - An Oxnard officer made a traffic stop on a car at the intersection of First Street and Marquita Street--just one block away from the location of a homicide that occurred on Jan. 5th on Marquita Street.

The officer stopped the car for a Vehicle Code violation around 6:37 p.m. on Monday. As the vehicle came to a stop, officers reported that both the driver and passenger attempted to walk away.

Police quickly detained the two and confirmed that the driver was Anthony Madrid, 22, who was on probation.

During a probation search of the vehicle, the officer located a loaded handgun.

Madrid was then arrested for various felony weapon charges. Madrid's passenger was released with no charges.

Police ask that anyone with information about this crime contact the Oxnard Police Department at (805) 385-7600 or online at www.oxnardpd.org.
