Man arrested for breaking into Ventura home and stealing property and car
VENTURA, Calif. - A man broke into a house in Ventura between Jan. 15 and Jan. 19 while the owners were away.
The suspect entered the victim’s house and stole property and car keys and then took the victim’s car.
Ventura police responded to the home and placed the vehicle in the stolen vehicle system, and the Lojack system was activated.
On Jan. 20, a Ventura Street Crimes Detective found the stolen vehicle while using the Lojack system. This is when detectives watched the suspect, identified as Jared Russell enter the stolen car and drive away.
Ventura Police deployed a K-9 unit to assist the Ventura Auto Theft Task Force in stopping the vehicle and taking Russell into custody.
During the arrest, officers reported finding stolen property from the residential burglary as well as illegal narcotics.
Russell was booked in the Ventura County Jail where he was charged with burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamines, and a felony warrant.
A review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows that Russell has been convicted of narcotics offenses and domestic violence offenses in the past. Russell also has multiple out-of-state felony warrants.
