VENTURA, Calif. - One suspect was arrested by Ventura Police after a fight broke out in front of a bar in Ventura Saturday night.

The Ventura Police Department Command Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a physical fight between several people in front of The Tavern on East Santa Clara Street.

Ventura City Police and AMR responded to the scene around 11:30 p.m. and found one person, a 37-year-old man, had sustained a non-life threatening head injury.

During the investigation, officers discovered that the victim and several of his friends had been drinking and were refused entry to the bar. One of the victim's friends then got into a verbal argument with the bouncers.

The fight turned physical and ended up in the street in front of the bar.

It was around this time that one of the bouncers, identified as 24-year-old Alex Stewart, choked the victim and hit him several times over the head with a flashlight.

Officers determined Stewart's force against the victim was unnecessary and he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim was treated on the scene before being transported to Ventura County Medical Center for further treatment. No one else was injured during this incident.
