San Luis Obispo County has winner in first ‘Vax for the Win’ lottery drawing

A winner from San Luis Obispo County was chosen during the state's first "Vax for the Win" drawing Friday morning. The individual who has at least one COVID-19 vaccination shot will be contacted by health authorities. That winner with 14 others statewide each won $50,000.

Friday was the first drawing in California's "Vax for the Win" lottery drawing. Another 15 will win on June 15. And 10 people will also win $1.5 million in a June 15 drawing.

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

All California residents 12 years and older are eligible to win if they've received at least one dose of a vaccine. Prize money will be paid after the winner has completed their vaccination series. Incarcerated persons and persons living outside of California are not eligible. Eligibility is not determined by immigration status.

Winners will be notified by the California Department of Public Health, and their names will not be made public during the drawings. Winners will have the chance to either decline the prize, or not have their name publicity associated with the winnings.
