CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Governments and financial institutions are pledging millions of dollars for humanitarian and development projects to address the urgent needs of Venezuelans at home and abroad. The funding promises come as diplomats acknowledge that Venezuela’s crisis requires renewed attention. The pledges were announced Friday during a conference in Brussels designed to raise awareness of Venezuela’s protracted economic, social and political crisis. Part of the money will benefit some of the more than 7 million Venezuelans who have migrated during the crisis. A U.N. report last year estimated it would cost $795 million to provide all the humanitarian help needed by about 5.2 million people in Venezuela.
