SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — A former SBCC baseball standout has come back to coach.

John Jensen recently announced that he’ll return to the dugout at Pershing Park, as an assistant coach for the Vaqueros during the upcoming spring season.

At SBCC, he was a two-time All-Western State Conference North Division honoree and the MVP in 2017.

Jensen also starred at Santa Barbara High, earning All-CIF Division 2 honors along with being named a two-time team MVP and All-Channel League selection.

After playing for two years at UC Irvine, he transferred to Westmont for his final year of eligibility.

This past spring season, Jensen led the Warriors with 14 home runs while being named to the All-GSAC team.

After spending his summer coaching for the Portland Pickles — a collegiate summer baseball team — Jensen is back in his hometown, ready to relay all the knowledge that he gained on and off the field.

“I had pretty good success here when I played, so I know the field and program well,” Jensen said. “I just wanted to pass down some knowledge to the younger guys from what I learned throughout my playing career.”

Jensen and the Vaqueros have already begun training for fall ball.
