Public safety power shutoffs under consideration for parts of Santa Barbara, Goleta, Gaviota on Monday
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Southern California Edison announced Sunday that parts of Santa Barbara, Goleta and the Gaviota coast are under consideration for a public safety power shutoff that would begin Monday evening.
Edison said the forecast is predicting fire weather conditions. Crews are considering turning off electrical lines to the Santa Barbara area in an effort to prevent sparking a wildfire.
The possible shutoffs may begin around 6 p.m. on Monday, June 14. Affected areas will remain under consideration for a shutoff until 12 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16. About 5,160 customers will be affected.
Edison said the shutoffs could occur earlier or later depending on weather conditions.
They are encouraging all residents to prepare an outage plan and emergency kit in the event they lose power.
