VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - The Ventura County Auto Theft Task Force conducted a countywide sweep to arrest regular auto theft and property crimes offenders, resulting in 19 arrests.

“Operation Clean Sweep” took place on Thursday and involved officers and detectives from the California Highway Patrol, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigations, the DMV Division of Investigations, the Simi Valley Police Department, the Ventura Police Department, the Oxnard Police Department, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and the Santa Paula Police Department.

The operation culminated in the arrest of 19 people, primarily for arrest warrants related to property crimes.

CHP said that one person was apprehended the night before the operation after being spotted inside a stolen vehicle in the City of Oxnard.

In addition to the arrests, law enforcement conducted a total of 23 probation compliance searches throughout Ventura County.

The Auto Theft Task Force encourages residents to deter car thieves by parking in secure or highly visible locations, such as inside a garage or in a well-lit area.

As a reminder, never leave your car unattended while running the engine.

Suspicious activity can be reported to local law enforcement or anonymously by contacting Ventura Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
