Driver detained after multiple hit-and-run accidents, possible attempted carjacking in Montecito

MONTECITO, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol has detained a driver who hit at least six vehicles on Highway 101 Monday morning in Montecito.

Around 8 a.m. an out-of-control white pickup truck began to hit other vehicles on the freeway. Witnesses followed the Ford truck as it attempt to flee the scene. The driver exited the 101 before getting back on, then eventually ditched the truck and ran off. Again, followed by witnesses, according to the CHP. Officers say a witness held the suspect at the scene until officers arrived and detained them.

At one point during the morning there where reports of an attempt to jump into another vehicle, according to the CHP traffic website. This incident is being looked into.

There have been no reports of injury from the victims who's cars were hit.

This is a developing story and update will be made when they become available.
