Organizers of the 2020 Central Coast Airfest announced Tuesday the event was canceled.

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Another popular Central Coast event was canceled Tuesday because of the coronavirus pandemic: Central Coast Airfest.

Event organizers say the event was canceled due to safety and community concerns over COVID-19.

“We are extremely disappointed to announce the cancellation of this year’s AirFest.  AirFest has proven to be a wonderful community event embraced by the entire Santa Maria Valley, and we were very much looking forward to bringing this event back in 2020” said Chris Kunkle, AirFest Director, in a press release.  “However, due to the ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19, community safety and the well-being of everyone involved, including our many international performers as well as the military services, we knew it best to cancel and focus on an even better event next year.”

The event was scheduled for the weekend of October 17 and 18.

Central Coast Airfest first started at the Santa Maria Airport in 2018. This would have been the third year for the event, which features flying demonstrations from warbirds, fighter jets and other aircraft. Thousands of people from across the Central Coast attended last year's event.
