SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office called off a short chase Tuesday in Santa Maria due to safety concerns.

Deputies spotted a stolen Honda Accord around 1:35 p.m. in the area of Battles and Blosser Roads. Deputies tried to stop the driver who then led them on a brief chase.

The sheriff's office says the car was on the wrong side of the road at times, and eventually deputies had to stop following the driver because it was becoming a safety issue.

The chase was called off just a few blocks away at Battles and College Drive.

The sheriff's office says the car was originally stolen overnight from Paso Robles. Two people were believed to be in the car at the time of the chase.

The sheriff's office says it notified Santa Maria police that the car was last seen in city limits, and officers were directed to stop the car if it is spotted again.
