Taco Tuesday and Cinco de Mayo bring boom to Milpas Street taco restaurants
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Mexican restaurants hit the trifecta Tuesday when it comes to tacos. Tuesday was Cinco de Mayo, Taco Tuesday and Takeout Tuesday in Santa Barbara.
Mexican restaurants on Milpas Street cashed in on people celebrating. KEYT talked with two restaurants that said their lunch rush was their busiest during the COVID-19 stay at home order.
There were orders for delivery and pickup waiting for them once they walked in with the biggest taco order for one person was 24.
Gabby Perez works in her family owned Los Altos Restaurant. She said, “Yeah it’s Taco Tuesday. So people love their tacos. They’re only $2.25. Homemade tortillas, hardshell tacos. We got 24 tacos this morning. 24 tacos for one person, that’s a lot of tacos.”
Mauricio Garces also works in his family-owned Tacos Pipeye. He added, “Oh man, we’re busy busy. We opened up the shop with an order of 100 tacos actually. Police department, construction site from down the street. It’s awesome to see a line out the door and see people hanging out waiting having fun, just chitchatting with their friends. Love it.”
The night rush for other taco restaurants from the Taqueria el Pastor Cito food truck to Los Agaves Mexican Restaurant had lines down the street until 8 p.m.
