SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - 37 people were ticketed during a speed enforcement operation on Highway 154 this week.

CHP officers conducted the safety operation on the stretch between Highway 101, near Los Olivos, and Paradise Road, just south of Lake Cachuma.

The CHP says most of the citations were for speeding.

Officers have done a number of these enforcement operations along Highway 154.

The highway is known for its history of crashes, but one of the most high-profile in recent months was the deadly crash near Cold Spring Bridge. CHP investigators say a Santa Barbara man intentionally drove into oncoming traffic, killing a Solvang mother and her two young children on October 25.

The Santa Barbara County Association of Governments held its first Highway 154 Safety Committee town hall in December in the wake of the October crash. During that town hall, local leaders said speed, unsafe driving, and DUIs were to blame for most crashes on the highway.
