3 injured after 2 vehicle accident on Highway 154

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle crash near Lake Cachuma early Sunday morning.

It happened on the 2300 block of Highway 154 near Rancho Alegre at 12:06 a.m.

Santa Barbara County Fire said a total of three patients were involved.

California Highway Patrol said one vehicle, a blue Nissan Sentra, was travelling eastbound on Highway 154 when it crossed the centerline of the road resulting in a head-on collision with the second vehicle.

The driver of the Nissan, who was alone, required extrication by firefighters and is in critical condition. They are suffering from serious injuries.

The passenger and driver of the second vehicle sustained only minor injuries from the impact.

All patients were transported to Santa Barbra Cottage Hospital via ground ambulance. Cal Star tried to transport the critical patient but was unable to due to the weather conditions.

A total of two engines, a Battalion Chief, AMR and Cal Star assisted with the incident.

California Highway Patrol is investigating and has not yet determined how or why the first driver drifted over the centerline.

Officers do not suspect alcohol or drugs were involved.
