SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Volunteers at the Storyteller Children's Center in Santa Barbara helped bring a winter surprise to toddlers and preschoolers from families in need of assistance on Friday.

"Snow" flurries made of foam were provided for the children to play in.

Teachers at the Children's Center said most of the kids there have never seen snow before.

In addition, Christmas trees were brought for each family in each class and the volunteers decorated the trees with the families.

The kids then sang songs on the front lawn of the center in both English and Spanish.

Storyteller Children's Center is a therapeutic preschool that helps children from Santa Barbara's poorest families become "Kindergarten Ready."

Families of the children who attend the center are living below or close to the poverty guideline, some of which meet the Federal definition of homeless.

Storyteller Children's Center helps to meet the specific social and emotional needs that children from those living situations acquire.
