Youth Council hosts candidates forum in Santa Barbara
Members of the Santa Barbara Youth Council and other teen groups aren’t old enough to vote, but that didn’t stop them from hosting a forum for Santa Barbara City Council candidates at the Louise Lowry Davis Center.
Madison Weber said, “We just want youth to have a voice.”
Students asked tough questions about guns, climate and health.
Dhaira Calzadilla said, “Vaping was huge.”
Some teens will receive community service hours or extra credit for their attendance.
Marco Palmerin said,”I feel like there are not enough issues surrounding what it is like to live here in Santa Barbara, the housing prices, the different social status, what it is like to actually be a teen here in California and stuff because it is extremely difficult.”
The candidates, including an incumbent, encouraged the teens to stay involved .
