Local businesses ready to welcome evacuees

Local hotels appear ready to welcome evacuees from California wildfires.

The Holiday Inn in Carpinteria had a flurry of reservations on Monday morning after the Getty Fire broke out.

The desk clerk said they would offer them a special rate if they needed rooms.

Business said they met evacuees from Sonoma County last week.

Nancy Peters of Robitaille’s Fine Candies said, “I had a big group come in, people coming from fires from Sonoma, and people from the south because of fires, it’s helping our business.”

Santa Barbara County firefighter at an extreme weather hazard meeting on Friday encouraged people to have an evacuation plan that includes checking on neighbors and animals.
