Crews respond to possible gas leak in Oxnard

Emergency crews were called to a possible gas leak at Gills Onion Plantation in Oxnard on Monday.

The incident happened around 5 p.m.

Fire crews said an employee complained that they were having problems breathing. Turns out, 10 employees reported having similar chest pain symptoms.

Hazmat was called to the scene for a possible ammonia leak.

At this point we’ve isolated the plant there was 71 employees working at the time of the incident. They have now been evacuated from the plant. No one else is exhibiting symptoms.”

Oxnard fire confirms that an ammonia test came back negative.

They are still trying to pinpoint the source of the employees’ illness.
