Ventura County Heart Walk inspire participants to “Walk more, sit less.”
Ventura County Heart Walk 2019 took place in Camarillo on Saturday.
About 1,500 people and few dogs took part.
Before the walk around the California State University Channel Islands campus participants warmed up with yoga and learned to do CPR to the beat of songs including Staying Alive or Baby Shark.
If you see someone collapse, act fast by calling 911 and starting hands only CPR.
A demonstration showed how to kneel over victims, and how to place hands stacked in center of the chest. They said to push hard and fast to a beat until help arrives.
CSUCI mascot Echo helped lead the walk.
Some people walked in memory of loved ones.
Dr. Timothy Canan of UCLA Heath said to,”Move more, sit less.”
“The recommendation is five times a week, really trying to get out and doing 30-minutes-a-day, most days of the week. The goal of about 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise, like walking like we are today.”
Participants also enjoyed a yoga session before the walk and mariachi and rock bands performing along the route.
They raised more than $170,000 to fund lifesaving science.
