Ribbon cutting held for sculpture project in Guadalupe

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held outside Guadalupe City Hall on Thursday where one of several sculptures by local artists is on display.

The Civic Arts Campaign is funded mainly by a grant from the Squire Foundation.

The foundation was created by the late artist Morris Bear Squire from Santa Barbara.

Squire believed artists had a social and moral obligation to share their work with the public to inspire others and build a better society and community.

“It’s nice that the kids have something to look at, and they maybe never thought that sculptures were art. Hopefully some of the young artists will see that there’re different mixtures of art,” Guadalupe Mayor Pro Tem Gina Rubalcalba said.

The sculptures can be found on public display at several locations throughout the city.
