Record breaking amount of money raised at this year’s Day of Hope

A record-breaking amount of money was raised at this year’s Day of Hope.

On Tuesday night, at a special Day of Hope Thank You Celebration, organizers announced the one-day fundraiser brought in $231,906.

The number beats the old record that was set last year by about $20,000.

Since it debuted in 2014, the popular event has raised money to directly benefit patients at Mission Hope Cancer Center in Santa Maria.

This year’s big amount raises the grand total that has been generated to just under $1 million.

Through generous community donations, the cumulative amount is $994,894.

Money raised comes through the sale of special edition $1 Santa Maria Times newspapers, as well as through local business donations.
