Multiple police officers injured in Grover Beach attack

An arrest turned into a violent struggle in Grover Beach. A drug suspect and two police officers were taken to the hospital Monday afternoon.

Aside from some homeless activity, neighbors who live across the street from Mentone Basin Park say they’ve never seen a violent altercation take place.

“I’m right behind him, I go can I help you? What are you doing,” said Mark Perry.

Perry came face-to-face with the man suspected of injuring two Grover Beach Police Officers

“I followed him back here, he had no shoes on, all he had on were socks and he was all disheveled,” said Perry.

Perry says a young man in his 20’s ran right past his front door, opened his back gate, made his way through the backyard jumped over his fence.

It wasn’t until Perry heard sirens that he knew something was wrong.

“We are finding there are more instances in the last few years of resistance to police officers when they’re in the lawful right to make an arrest,” said Grover Beach Police Chief John Peters.

Two officers were doing a security check just across the street from Perry’s home at Mentone Basin Park when they were attacked.

“When they were checking the men’s restroom, an adult male was inside the restroom engaged in narcotics activity. During the arrest attempt, he resisted the arrest, assaulted the officers causing serious injury to one and moderate injury to a second officer,” said Chief Peters.

After the violent struggle, police say 23-year-old Trey Anthony Wilson took off.

“I wouldn’t say this level of assault happens in Grover Beach but unfortunately, you do have a criminal element and that’s not just in Grover Beach but everywhere else,” said Peters.

After an extensive search, Wilson was arrested about two blocks away – which explains the intruder in Perry’s yard.

“Maybe next time I’ll keep the gate locked. My wife says, ‘don’t leave the gate open because anybody can run back here,’ so I guess she was right about that,” said Perry.

Chief Peters says the officer that sustained more serious injuries is in stable condition as of Monday evening.

Two Grocer Beach Police Officers are in a hospital after a suspicious suspect assaulted the officers during an arrest at Mentone Basin Park Monday afternoon.

During the struggle, the suspect escaped from officers and fled to a nearby neighborhood. Other neighboring agencies assisted in finding the suspect. A San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s K-9 dog was also used in the search.

The suspect was found about two blocks away and was taken into custody without incident.

One officer sustained serious injuries and the other received moderate injuries after a violent struggle between them ensued according to police.

The suspect, Trey A Wilson, sustained minor injuries. The two officers and Wilson were sent to area hospitals for treatment.
