Adult, teens arrested following fight and police pursuit in Santa Barbara

Three individuals were arrested on Monday night following a fight in downtown Santa Barbara.

Two juveniles and one adult man, later identified as 18-year-old Omar Marquez, were charged with violating parole and for gang-related charges, police said. One of the juveniles was charged with a felony assault with a deadly weapon.

Santa Barbara police were dispatched to the intersection of Bath and Haley Streets at about 11:59 p.m. to a report of approximately six people involved in a fight. Police said witnesses reported seeing several individuals getting out of a car with broken windows and began fighting with several other teens using sticks, pipes, bottles and a “bench” as weapons.

The suspects shouted gang-related statements during the fight, according to authorities.

Police said they saw a silver car leaving the scene. After a short pursuit, police pulled the car over on Garden and Cota streets and arrested three male suspects at gunpoint. Edged weapons were found in the car, police said.

Marquez was booked on numerous felonies including assault and battery, child endangerment, brandishing a weapon, and participating in a local criminal street gang.

The two teens were booked at Juvenile Hall. Additionally, one of the teen’s mother was cited at the police station after admitting to allowing her unlicensed/suspended son to drive the suspect vehicle. This was her second citation for the same violation.
