Prescribed burn scheduled near Hearst San Simeon State Park

Cal Fire has issued a prescribed fire operation in Hearst San Simeon State Park from Wednesday through Sunday.

The prescribed burn will be near the intersection of Highway 1 and San Simeon Creek Road and along the road connecting the Washburn Campground to the San Simeon Creek Campground and has been scheduled from May 30 to June 3.

The prescribed burn will be applied to brush piles in the Monterey pine forest of Hearst San Simeon State Park. Cal Fire says this burn will manage vegetation and reduce the amount of dead and dying trees in the area, which is fuel for a burning fire. Rotational pile burnings will reduce pathogens and pests impacting the health of the Monterey pines.

Cal Fire says the burning will start on a permissive burn day and burning will not occur if a burn ban is in effect.
