New Santa Maria FedEx location to open its doors in June

More jobs, and better service. That’s what the new Santa Maria FedEx office is hoping to bring with the inauguration of their new Fairview Avenue center on June 15.

“It’s almost three times as big as where we are currently,” said Senior Manager Greg Johnson. “A little bit over 180,000 square-feet.”

Johnson said the big move should run smoothly.

“We’re still here in our same neighborhood, literally around the corner, so that’s gonna be an easy transition for our employees.”

Currently, there are 60 employees, that number that could soon grow.

“The building is built so big for expansion over the next ten years or so. So there will be more jobs as we grow.”

Johnson added he’s excited their new operations building will finally open its doors after one year behind schedule. The company had to file additional permits because the Fairview Avenue facility is also home to a red-legged endangered frog species.

“We have a special pond for them out front with an alarm set up so we’ll be monitoring that as far water levels and all that stuff,” he explained.

Some neighbors at the new 182,000 square foot building are satisfied with the move.

“We’re happy that FedEx is moving across the street from us,” said Eric Dean at Wine Direct. “Every day they stop by and pick up. So it’s just logistically nice to have them the closer the better.”

The business will operate 24/7 all year round.

The current FedEx location on West McCoy lane will shut down in mid-June.
