Montecito Union School closed Thursday and Friday following Recommended Evacuation Warning

Montecito Union School will be closed Thursday and Friday because of the Recommended Evacuation Warning issued by the Office of Emergency Management, according to school officials.

The warning has been in effect since 8 a.m. on Wednesday. It impacts the Thomas, Sherpa, and Whittier burn areas because of a storm predicted to come in Thursday night into early Friday morning.

Students will attend classes at three different campuses as part of its partnership with Santa Barbara’s Hope School District.

Here is a list of where Montecito students go on Thursday and Friday:

Kindergarten and first grade students will attend classes at Vieja Valley School on Nogal Drive. Second and third grade students will report to Hope Elementary School on La Colina Road. Fourth, fifth and sixth graders will go to Monte Vista School on North Hope Avenue.

“It is vital to us that we keep the students safe and allow them to keep learning even when we need to close MUS,” said MUS Superintendant Anthony Ranii in a press release.

Representatives from Montecito Union School will be at each site to make sure all students are checked into their respective classes.
