Montecito Inn delays reopening date due to Thursday’s storm
Closed for nearly two months, the Montecito Inn will wait at least one more day to reopen.
“We decided just yesterday to postpone our opening day to Friday. We just thought it would be better for the safety of our employees and guest to have everyone not on property,” said Jason Copus with the Montecito Inn.
The historic 90-year-old hotel on Coast Village Road suffered major external damage in January’s mudslides. Mud and debris surrounded the property, filling up the parking structure will several feet of mud.
In the weeks since there has been an incredible transformation. All the debris removed, landscaping fixed and the building re-painted. Touch-up work is still happening but with this latest storm looming, Inn officials decided to it’s better to be safe than sorry.
The inn is using sandbags to keep water, mud, and debris out of their property. They sandbags were set up along every driveway.
“There definitely is a worry of what will happen if we do get a significant storm like what is expected today and tomorrow. As you can see we have prepared, the best we can with sandbags, hoping it will deter and redirect any sort of flow off of our property, so it’s not damaged like it was back on January 9th,” said Copus.
If all goes well, the Montecito Inn will be welcoming guests back after this storm moves through.
