Memorial held for Carpinteria woman killed in Las Vegas shooting

The remains of a Carpinteria woman who was killed in the Las Vegas mass shooting earlier this month were taken on a last motorcycle ride on Saturday.

Denise Cohen was killed during the October 1 shooting alongside boyfriend Derrick “Bo” Taylor.

Those who knew her best say Cohen loved country music and riding on motorcycles.

Friends and family of Cohen, as well as others from Las Vegas, arrived in Santa Barbara on Saturday to take Cohen’s urn for a final ride.

Motorcyclists led the procession through the streets of Santa Barbara, stopping at Santa Barbara Community Church for a celebration. Organizers say Cohen wished to have her ashes poured into the ocean.

Cohen was a mother of two sons with friends all across the California coast and beyond. Friends said they were happy she had found a partner in Taylor. Taylor, a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Lieutenant, was honored in a ceremony and buried in San Luis Obispo County earlier this month.

A memorial fund has been established on GoFundMe for anyone who would like to donate.
