Vista Fire burns 87 acres along Highway 33

WEDNESDAY UPDATE

The Vista Fire is 82% contained as of Wednesday evening. Acreage rolled back to 87 acres burned. Fire officials say the fire is expected to be fully contained by 8 p.m. Thursday.

The Ventura County Fire Department is reporting the Vista Fire is 50% contained Wednesday morning.

The fast-moving brush fire was reported around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday along Highway 33 just north of Ventura. It has burned 117 acres, according to fire officials.

All road closures have been lifted and resident who were under a voluntary evacuation have been allowed to return home by showing a valid ID.

Two firefighters were injured. One suffered smoke inhalation, the other was stung by a bee and taken to the hospital.

A travel trailer was destroyed in the fire. No other structures were threatened.

Crews are currently battling a 117-acre brush fire that broke out just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 33 south of Lake Casitas in Ventura County.

A large plume of dark smoke can be seen as far as Santa Barbara. A live webcam by the Ventura County Office of Emergency Services sitting atop Red Mountain shows a rapidly growing fire. The Vista Fire is a wind-driven fire.

A full fire response has been activated for this 2nd alarm fire being referred to as the Vista Fire. Over 100 firefighters, including air support, have been dispatched to fight this fire.

Highway 33 northbound is closed at Casitas Vista. Highway 33 southbound is closed at Sulphur Mountain. Santa Ana Road was closed in both directions but reopened as of 5:39 p.m.

Residents driving southbound out of Ojai Valley will be routed to Highway 33 southbound only and cannot use southbound Ventura Avenue as a bypass, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

Route 16 bus stops along Highway 33 are also closed at Canada Larga in both directions. Motorists are advised to use state Route 150 from Santa Paula to Ojai.

Teen Challenge evacuated 60 students due to the fire, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. No other evacuations were ordered.

There are several power outages affecting at least 3,300 residents due to the Vista Fire, tweeted the Public Information Officer for the Ventura County Fire Department.
