Gas tax opponents rally in Santa Barbara

Dozens of Santa Barbara County voters voiced their opposition to the gas tax and vehicle registration increase that begins next month.

Speakers said it will hurt Santa Barbara County’s low income and middle class families as well as vulnerable farmers.

The Santa Barbara County Republican Central Committee organized the ‘Repeal the Gas Tax Rally’ on Saturday afternoon at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse.

Participants want to see the gas tax repealed next year.

They also spoke out against a local one cent sales tax increase called Measure C.

Santa Barbara Councilman and mayoral candidate Frank Hotchkiss said he is opposed to a proposed sales tax increase on Santa Barbara’s ballot.

People holding signs and flags said they want lawmakers in Sacramento to get their message.
