The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the Ojai Police Department are searching for a 77-year-old woman who went hiking Saturday and has yet to return.

Lisa Mathiason, 77, of Bakersfield was reported missing Saturday evening at around 5:15 p.m.

Mathiason had not been heard from since Saturday morning and was multiple hours overdue from her predicted 2-hour hike near Chula Vista in the Mt. Pinos area.

A search and rescue helicopter took to the air to search for Mathiason while ground crews scoured the hiking trails.

There is limited cell service in the area and authorities believe no foul play is suspected.

Mathiason is a 77-year old white woman, 5-foot-4 and 140 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing a white or blue flowered shirt, white sweater, white or blue cargo pants and a multi-colored backpack.

Anyone who has seen Mathiason is urged to contact the Ventura County Sheriff’s Communications Center at (805) 654-9511.
