FBI agents arrest Oxnard man in Wisconsin in connection to 2012 homicide
The Oxnard Police Department have made an additional arrest in connection to a homicide that occurred in Oxnard in 2012.
On Monday, FBI agents and local law enforcement arrested, Gustavo Cuevas, 23, of Oxnard in Menasha, Wisconsin.
Cuevas was arrested in Wisconsin after authorities obtained an arrest warrant. He is accused of playing a role in the 2012 murder of 19-year-old Jose Gonzales.
On July 9, 2012, Oxnard police officers responded to several 911 calls of shots fired on the 2500 block of Greenbrook Drive. Officers arrived and located the body of Gonzales who had died from a gunshot wound.
Officers located a second shooting victim nearby. The second shooting victim, a 22-year-old Hispanic male from Oxnard, was transported to the hospital and survived his injuries.
Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit learned the victims were walking together when several subjects approached the victims and a confrontation occurred. The victims were shot and the suspects fled the scene. Investigators believe the confrontation and subsequent murder of Jose Gonzalez was gang motivated.
On January 23, 2017, Major Crimes Detectives arrested 25-year old Hugo Sanchez, of Oxnard, for his involvement in the murder of Jose Gonzales
Cuevas is currently in the process of being extradited to Ventura County. He is currently being held at a detention facility in the state of Wisconsin.
