Santa Maria woman killed in deadly crash on Highway 166
One woman is dead following a deadly crash that occurred in Santa Maria Monday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened around 4:20 a.m. on state Route 166, just west of Bonita School Road.
Two vehicles were involved. CHP said a blue Chevrolet Impala rear-ended a trailer that was carrying agriculture equipment.
The Impala was wedged underneath the rear of that trailer for several hours. It took the jaws of life to remove the Impala from underneath the rear of that trailer.
The victim’s name has not been released. CHP said the victim was a Santa Maria woman in her early 70’s. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Route 166 was closed for about 3 hours but reopened at about 8 a.m.
CHP said speed is believed to be a factor and neither drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
