Dogs prohibited from Port Hueneme beaches

The Port Hueneme Police Department is reminding people headed to Port Hueneme beaches that dogs and any other animals are prohibited.

These laws extend from Port Hueneme Beach into Ormond Beach in Oxnard.

Ormond Beach is a nesting site for the endangered California Least Tern and the threatened Western Snowy Plover.

Dogs create a threat to these nesting sites and seriously affect the birds nesting activity.

These laws are posted on signs at beach access points.

Dog friendly beaches in the area of Port Hueneme include Ventura Pier, Surfer’s Point, and Harbor Cove Beaches.
