Downtown Santa Barbara Sprint store burglar arrested

Santa Barbara police have arrested the alleged burglar that struck a Sprint retail store located at 1011 State Street on May 25.

Authorities identified the suspect as 32-year-old Santa Barbara resident Juan Antonio Barajas.

Passersby on the night of the burglary witnessed an individual inside the Sprint store putting items inside a bag as the alarm sounded off and broken glass lined the store’s entrance. Police were called but were unable to locate the burglar.

Authorities say Barajas used some type of slingshot to break out the glass and enter the store. Police released surveillance video of the break-in hoping the community would be able to identify the suspect. It appears that tactic paid off.

Barajas was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for felony commercial burglary.
