Navy Chief of Staff serves as Memorial Day keynote speaker

One of largest Memorial Day ceremonies in Ventura County took place at Ivy Lawn cemetery in Ventura on Monday morning.

Military planes flew over more than once.

The ceremony was surrounded by by an Avenue of Flags donated by the families of fallen soldiers.

Special guests included State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson and Chief Staff Officer Doug King of
Naval Base Ventura County.

King gave the keynote address.

He encouraged people to bring their children to events like this.

“I just encourage folks to come out and to the cemeteries to the places where they can see this they can hear about the story of those who went before like my daughter she is 15 she doesn’t come out to these very often so it is great for her to experience this,” said King.

Afterwards people enjoyed red, white and blue cupcakes.

They also had a chance to visit and tent and learn about veterans services.

The avenue of flags will fly all week.
