Man accused of threatening employee with knife in San Luis Obispo

A transient man was arrested Wednesday after police say he threatened a store employee with a knife in San Luis Obispo.

At around 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, police responded to a store on Higuera Street for a report of a transient man threatening an employee at knife point.

The suspect had already left the area when police arrived but witnesses were able to give a description. The suspect was described as a white male wearing a brown trench coat and carrying an athletic bag.

The following day at around 3:45 p.m., the victim from the previous incident saw the suspect in front of the store and called 911.

Police arrived and the suspect was arrested several blocks away. The victim was able to positively identify the suspect.

The suspect has been identified as Dawayne Tuleya. Tuleya was arrested and taken to San Luis Obispo County Jail.

Tuleya could face felony charges for making criminal threats and brandishing a weapon.

Police say Tuleya is also facing felony vandalism charges in connection to three different vehicles that were vandalized with a knife over the last month. Total damage to the cars is estimated to be over $5,000.

Tuleya is being held on a $90,000 bail.
