I Madonnari artists prepare for holiday weekend of inspiration

Douglas Cummings got a jump start on his I Madonnari work of art on Friday as volunteers set up the 31st annual Italian Street Painting Festival at the Old Mission Santa Barbara.

Cummings found his square sponsored by Jackson Medical Group near the Mission steps.

He plans to create a black and white African Elephant.

The art is likely to inspire visitors who can watch artists at work through Memorial Day.

The money raised will benefit the Children’s Creative Project.

The project is an arts education program that serves 100 schools in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

The finished works of art will remains as long as it doesn’t rain.
