Top students at Oxnard High School awarded money, achievement plaque

A jeweler created an award for students who turned their grades around in their final years of high school

“The Diamond in the Rough award goes to the top ten students whose grade point average improved the most their junior year and senior year and tonight each one of them will receive a check for $100 and a plaque signifying what a great job they’ve done,’ said George Thompson.

The owner of George Thompson Diamond Company in Camarillo is an Oxnard High School alumni.

Thompson and his wife presented the awards during Oxnard High School’s scholarship and awards night.

Thompson’s presentation was one of many on Tuesday night.

Proud parents filled the auditorium.
