Suspect arrested in Santa Barbara’s westside after brief foot pursuit

UPDATE

Santa Barbara police said on Wednesday afternoon that the man involved in a foot pursuit with officers in Santa Barbara’s westside was only cited for a warrant on his name.

The man was not booked at Santa Barbara County Jail according to the Santa Barbara Police Department, and no charged were brought forth for obstructing an officer during the arrest Wednesday morning.

Police said the man’s identity was not released because he was only cited.

ORIGINAL STORY

A man was arrested after a brief foot pursuit in Santa Barbara and is facing criminal charges for resisting, delaying or obstructing a police officer.

The incident occurred Wednesday morning in the area of Anapamu Street and Walnut Avenue in Santa Barbara’s westside.

Santa Barbara police say the man, whose identity has not been released, was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant. When officers spotted the man, he fled on foot towards the nearby railroad tracks.

Police had set up a perimeter in the area so when the suspect ran towards Walnut Avenue along the railroad tracks, he ran right into the hands of waiting officers.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. He is expected to be booked on the misdemeanor warrant and for resisting arrest.
