Wildfire off Paradise Road in Santa Barbara County ‘human caused’
Fire crews battled a brush fire on Paradise Road in Santa Barbara County within two miles of the Rancho Oso campground Friday afternoon.
Witnesses reported seeing white smoke in the area just after 2 p.m. Those reports were confirmed by our news crew heading to the scene.
The fire burned in private property with the exception of a sliver of land that was under the jurisdiction of the Los Padres Forest Service. At least one Santa Barbara County fire engine and a Montecito Fire crew assisted Los Padres Forest Service.
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department said the fire was fully contained at 6.25 acres shortly after 3 p.m. Firefighters protected campers and trailers. No one was hurt.
Fire officials say it took five water drops from a helicopter to douse the flames and put out the blaze.
The fire was human caused but remains under investigation according to John “Pancho” Smith with the Los Padres Forest Service.
