Fire officials to declare start of high fire season on May 22

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department, along with all other local fire agencies, will declare the start of high fire season on May 22.

All permits issued for residential burning and hazard reduction will be suspended once this declaration goes into effect in a few days. The County Fire Department will also be increasing the number of resources used in wildfire fighting efforts during this high fire season.

Fire officials remind the community to be extra vigilant about fire safety this fire season. They urge residents to:

Maintain brush clearance around homes and other structures Review and be familiar with your “Ready! Set! Go! wildfire action plan Be extra cautious and aware when traveling or staying in the wildland areas of the county.
