Red Cross installing free smoke alarms in Port Hueneme homes

Port Hueneme get ready! On may 20th, the Red Cross of Ventura County will be installing free smoke alarms in Port Hueneme homes.

The installations are part of their Home Fire Campaign event.

Red Cross volunteers along with the Ventura County Fire Department will be installing the alarms from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event comes on the heels of a deadly apartment fire in Port Hueneme that killed a father and son and displaced several residents.

The Home Fire Campaign is a national effort to reduce home fire deaths by installing free smoke alarms around the country and offering families an education on how important it is to have an emergency preparedness plan.
