Highway repaving projects cause delays on the 101 and 154

Rain will put the brakes on two local repaving projects happening this week in two areas of Santa Barbara County.

In the meantime, drivers can expect lane closures and delays through Friday as Caltrans crews work a 17 mile stretch of Highway 154, west of Edison Street in Santa Ynez to the Cold Spring Canyon Bridge, starting in the early morning through the afternoon hours, and again overnight.

Caltrans officials released the following schedules:

Tuesday, Jan. 3 through Thursday, Jan. 5 from 8 am until 4 pm for paving.
Tuesday, Jan. 3 through Friday morning Jan. 6 from 7:30 pm until 5:30 am for paving.
Friday, Jan. 6 from 8 am until 12 noon for paving.

The project is expected to be complete by spring.

Another, quicker repaving project targets a 9 mile stretch of Highway 101 from Hollister Road to Refugio Road. On Tuesday the 3, drivers will find moving lane closures until 5 p.m. The delay potential could be up to 15 minutes; that work should be done by the end of the month.

The contractor for the $4.7 million project on US 101 is Granite Construction of Santa Barbara, CA.

The contractor for the $11 million project on State Route 154 is CalPortland of Santa Maria, CA.
