Westmont College alumni were passengers aboard crashing helicopter

The two passengers that were on board the Robinson R-44 helicopter that crash-landed at the La Cumbre Country Club on May 5th have been identified as Westmont College alumni Courtney Crosby and Turner Conrad.

Westmont College officials confirmed the news on Monday.

Crosby (Class of 2017) is listed as a member of Westmont’s Women’s Volleyball team on the college’s website.

The same website also lists Conrad (Class of 2016) as having played for the college’s Men’s Baseball team.

Both survived the helicopter crash and along with the pilot, were taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital to be treated for moderate injuries.

Investigators say Crosby and Conrad were touring the Santa Barbara Harbor area when the pilot began experiencing issues with the helicopter’s engine. A piece of that engine was later recovered near the railroad tracks and Modoc Road by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team.

After crash-landing, all three occupants were able to get out of the helicopter before it burst into flames.

All three people on board that helicopter are expected to make a full recovery.
