Santa Barbara City completes Las Positas roundabout project

An MTD bus stop, new street lights, landscaping, and storm water facilities are just some of the new features included with the recently completed roundabout at Las Positas Road and Cliff Drive.

The City of Santa Barbara began the $2 million roundabout construction project in November 2016 and completed it at the end of April 2017 within budget.

The old intersection used a three-way flashing “Stop” light leading to heavy congestion during peak commuting hours.

The city says the new roundabout not only improves traffic flow at the intersection but also reduces fuel consumption and emissions.

City officials also say the roundabout enhances safety for any mode of travel and was designed in a way that it will be completely functional with new proposed pathways along Las Positas Road and Cliff Drive.

Final polishes are underway by Granite Construction, Inc., the company that spearheaded the construction. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Monday, May 8 at 4:00 p.m.
