Carpinteria woman attacked and robbed while waiting for bus

A Carpinteria woman was violently attacked and robbed at a bus stop in the 4000 block of Via Real over the weekend.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office says the crime happened at 8:50 p.m. Saturday. They say a 27-year-old woman was sitting on a bench waiting for the bus when she noticed an unknown man wearing dark clothing standing behind her.

“The male, who appeared to be in his twenties, then grabbed the victim and started striking her. The victim screamed for help and fought back,” said the Sheriff’s Office in a statement. ” After a violent struggle, the suspect was able to force the victim’s purse away from her and fled the area.”

The victim ran away and called 911. Sheriff’s deputies, along with a K-9 unit, responded to the area and searched for the suspect but were unable to locate him.

The woman was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

No additional details were provided by the Sheriff’s Office citing an active investigation.
